Tyco's story...
Tyco is spending his first birthday back home at Glendale Farms.
He was brought here in a dog crate mounted below the bumper of his owner's van next to the muffler -- like you might carry luggage or a cooler. It was a six-hour drive, just inches from the ground and passing cars, breathing exhaust fumes the whole trip. The screams of the little boy in the back of the van could be heard across the pasture as his father took the five-hundred-dollar check and drove away without his collie.
Tyco had been banished to an outdoor kennel for marking in the house. His beautiful golden coat was a tangled mass that had to be separated from his skin a quarter of an inch at a time with scissors and peeled back, revealing open bleeding sores and scabs all over. The mats behind his ears were so big that they kept his beautiful, naturally-tipped ears from coming up to listen to the sounds around him. When the mats were cut, releasing their ugly grip on his ears, Tyco took off bouncing through the yard, throwing toys in the air while his ears flopped up and down. There were sores all the way around his neck. We cried when we saw that the dirty red collar covering those sores was the little red collar we had sent him home in ten months ago.
This brave one-year-old got a special gift for his birthday -- a new name. He will be called Michael -- "Glendale's Prince of Angels."
His progress has been nothing short of miraculous. In just a week and a half on antibiotics that the family was told that he needed, Michael's skin is no longer red and bleeding. He sleeps in the house in his own bed with his special blankie -- not outside alone in 32-degree weather. By day he romps and springs joyously through the air celebrating life.
In a few months, when Michael has completed his treatment and training and is neutered, we will help him find his real forever home. Only the best will do for this precious boy. Maybe you know a family who wants a lifetime friend. Until then, Michael is having a great time right here where he will always be loved and welcome.
Happy Birthday, Michael! And Happy Birthday to your twelve beautiful brothers and sisters!
March 18th...Update on Michael
Michael is doing great! His beautiful golden coat is starting to grow back where his matted hair was clipped away from the sores that developed under it.
He may have a little scaring, but his flowing coat is covering most of it. Michael has learned to wear his new jacket that Maya's family bought him.
It covers the areas of missing coat when it is cold and windy. He loves to run and play with his best friends Trevor and Travis. They show off for the girls
and poke the ponies. Michael no longer ducks when we reach to pet his head, and the likes to be brushed now -- he says it feels good!
UPDATE...
Michael has been adopted!
He now has a beautiful family that he deserves. They love him very much. Many acres of room to run and play...
and a brother, Duke, who also a rescue dog. Duke is 11 months old and Michael is 15 months. The two of them are going
to have so much fun exploring life together. The pond is going to be so much fun! Michael loves the water. There are ducks,
geese and baby chicks too. Oh, and even a horse. As you can see from the pictures he is a very happy boy.
We want to thank everyone, very much, who helped Michael along the way. He will forever be in our thoughts and prayers.
Michael is such a sweet boy who has only love, hugs and kisses for everyone.
